Unisex Fairtrade Ribbed Cotton Samue Kimono Jacket Black

Size Guide

Our 100% cotton black unisex samue jackets are ethically produced in Thailand, from our own original design. Like our mandarin jackets, they're made from soft, 'shing mai' ribbed cotton, and can be worn tied up or open for a more casual look.

They look great on men and women, as a light jacket or a comfy top. Inspired by traditional Japanese workwear, our samue jackets have narrower sleeves and cuffs than formal kimono and are practical as well as stylish. They come in a range of colours and sizes from XS-XL. The cuffs are lined with contrasting beige shing mai cotton that can be turned up for a smart cropped sleeve. They are tied in the traditional style of left over right: the right side ties to the inside left and then the left side ties over to the right. Our samue jackets have 2 front front pockets: one on the outside left and the other is hidden on the inside right when the jacket is tied up.

Match your samue jacket with a pair of our shing mai trousers to create a stunning set.

Fit, Sizes & Measurements

Our samue jackets have ties on both the inside and outside, so they can fit a range of sizes - as well as worn open.  The chest and waist measurements below reflect the maximum and minimum sizes we suggest. The length shown is measured from the neck to the bottom seam.

Please note: as you can see from the photos, the shoulder seams on our samue jackets are designed to hang below your shoulder. So the shoulder width (seam to seam) dimensions should be wider than your actual shoulders. Similarly, when worn, the sleeves will be longer than the (shoulder seam to cuff) sleeve measurements given below. The cuffs are designed to be rolled up to a maximum of approximately 4"/10.5cm for a cropped sleeve look, but look equally good rolled down.

This 100% cotton samue jacket might shrink slightly after its first wash and thereafter retain its size. So to avoid disappointment, please choose a loose fit and follow our Care Instructions below.

    Vintage Sizing and Measurements

Vintage sizing and modern sizing can be very different. Because of this, we provide detailed measurements of all vintage clothing to help you determine whether or not a garment will fit correctly. An assessment of the estimated modern size will be noted, as well as any sizes on the tag, but please refer to measurements to best determine fit.

A good way to determine fit:

    * Find a similar item in your wardrobe.
    * Measure it according to our measurement guidelines.
    * Compare your measurements to those of the vintage item you are interested in.
    * You're done. If it's a good fit, make it yours!

We do occasionally pin clothing to fit our models, so please read all measurements carefully. We do not accept returns for vintage merchandise that does not fit. If you have any questions about our sizing/measurements, please contact us at info@meroretro.com.
